Game of Thrones: Dragonfire
Which faction should you choose?
Three factions share the map every Reign. Each gives +5% attack to ONE troop type. Here is what that changes — and what it doesn't.
In short: Game of Thrones: Dragonfire has 3 factions — North, Center, South. Each grants +5% attack to a single troop type, you can't reliably pick yours (the game balances the three camps first), and the faction is reshuffled every Reign.
The three factions and their bonus
North
+5% attack · Shields
Shields beat Archers and lose to Cavalry — ±7% on every hit.
Center
+5% attack · Cavalry
Cavalry beat Shields and lose to Pikemen — ±7% on every hit.
South
+5% attack · Pikemen
Pikemen beat Cavalry and lose to Archers — ±7% on every hit.
So which faction is the best?
None of them on its own. The bonus is +5% attack on a single troop type: it counts when your dragons already carry a green affinity for that troop, and it is worth nothing otherwise. The right faction is read off YOUR dragons, not off a ranking. And since troop advantage swings ±7% on every hit — more than the faction bonus — what decides your fights is still your formation.
Work out my best formationsCan you choose your faction?
Not reliably. The game balances the three camps first: even if you state a preference, you can be placed elsewhere. The Mercenary option assigns you a faction AT RANDOM in exchange for gold — it is not a way to pick a side.
Can you change faction?
Your faction is reshuffled every Reign, so don't get attached. During a World transition your alliance stays whole, but the World and the faction can change. If your goal is to play with friends, the lever is the alliance, not the faction.
Faction, alliance, Great House: not the same thing
- The alliance is your real group — it follows you from one Reign to the next. The faction does not.
- The Great House is cosmetic: it gives no combat bonus.
- Mercenary is not a fourth faction: it is a random placement option, rewarded in gold.
